TIME TRAVEL PUZZLE

Just watched a favourite Time-Travel movie about a busload of rather odd tourists who turn up off-season at a delapitated hotel saying they are on a 'Grand Tour' and vehemently insisting on staying there rather than the plush hotel in the centre of town.The owner finds a passport stamped with dates rather than places and these dates correspond to historical cataclysmic events. There follows a race against time to find out what they have come to witness.

For this puzzle, we compiled our own Grand Time-Travel Tour and you're invited to accompany us on our tour of historical and scientific events . So, other than the obvious choice of 5 minutes before the Big Bang or taking a portable scanner, camera and laptop to the ancient Alexandria Library before the fire - what made the itinary?!
