We started and ended the year in the same way, round a table eating lunch. On the positive side, Nigel achieved over 8000 ft with his scratch-built 'Pretty In Pink' to claim the O'Dell Altitude Plate and he also made strides in his Tracking work which was put to the test in recovering this rocket. Rob challenged this effort and continued to make some great launches throughout the year. Both Jim and Felix ended their drought of launching with new rockets, Roy successfully repaired the Giant Pteradactyl which is now ready for 2008 and the three of them made a visit to a local school to promote Amateur Rocketry. Nearly everyone was able to go to Starchaser and see them test their bi-fuel engine in March and Felix, and Jim had a great time at the S.W.Astro-Fest in August. Tony gained his R.S.O. and got engaged. Roy and John went to Kennedy Space Centre, John doing an Astronaut Training Course so it was rather an exciting year in some ways.
On the negative side, once more we were faced with the appearance of 'Foot and Mouth; which though not in our area, had a knock-on effect resulting in the cancellation of a couple of meetings. As usual we took it on the chin and made the best of circumstances beyond our control ! |
